What Industries is Virtual Reality Expected to Have the Most Impact?

VR technology took the world by storm when Facebook made the bold step of buying Oculus Rift. With the immersion of Facebook in VR, Google, Microsoft, HTC and even Sony followed suit to provide users with their VR sets and platforms.

For a while, VR concentrated on gaming where people got to interact with first person shooter games like never before. It was like playing a paintball shooting game but in the confines of your home and no paint or pain experienced.

Today, VR technology has found many applications and several industries have become interested. Here are the different industries Virtual Reality will have the most impact.

Entertainment

Netflix made its service available worldwide at the beginning of the year and today, others will follow suit in their wake especially when VR technology becomes affordable like smartphones and tablets. Today, you will find apps like Oculus cinema which allow users to watch movies all to themselves. It can be accomplished even when in the Movie Theater itself.

At concerts, if you are not into rowdy fans, you can always try out the VR concert experience. You can get to be onstage with your favorite rock stars and musicians. You can even experience how they play various instruments. It is possible if you use Paul McCartney’s or Coldplay VR experiences.

Real estate

The real estate industry has already started using VR technology to help display most of its listing. It follows in the wake of 360-degree videos which allowed interested buyers and renters to have a close view of the home.

Several real estate companies have had their listings converted into interactive 3-D models which offer consumers an easy way of experiencing open houses minus the cookies. Even hotels have jumped on the bandwagon and are offering virtual room tours to interested boarders from around the world.

Automotive

The majority of buyers visit car websites to get a look at the new cars that are available. In the past, people would get a glimpse of several pictures that depicted the interior, exterior and other features of the car. Today, thanks to VR technology, interested buyers are getting an interactive and in-depth look at the car.

VR technology has made it possible for interested buyers to interact with car model online. They can open the vehicle doors to have a look at the interior. They can open the bonnet to have a look at the engine and even the car boot. Companies like Toyota through its TeenDrive365 campaign has helped to educate teenagers and parents about distracted driving.

Gaming

Video games have been a favorite past time for many people since the first game has been developed. Today, it has even become a paying career for many players, especially with online games.

VR technology has made an impact on the gaming industry especially first person shooter games. Systems have been created to allow the player to simulate walking or running in the match. Players can even select weapons, load the guns, take shots and even use knives. It is one of the industries that VR has had the greatest impact.

Space

NASA has been using simulated environments for an extended period of time to help in training its astronauts for long-term missions. It is done to prepare them for what is out there as well as make them space ready.

The organization Virtual Space Station includes a set of interactive behavioral health training and treatment programs. It will help in improving the health of the astronauts and allow them to combat unexpected problems when in space.

Military

The military has been training using VR technology as this makes it easier and affordable to simulate battle situations. Through VR technology, different environments can be incorporated which allows them to learn how to deal with IEDs and others. It helps to eliminate mistakes which can occur in the battlefield. Other applications in the military include training for trauma medics for combat.

Tourism

Large hotel chains like the Marriott have been excited about VR technology and have even taken the step of developing useful technology around tourism. Dubbed the 4D experience, the technology will utilize VR Headsets and equipment to transport the wearer to a destination they want. The experience can be compared to the 360 attractions which emerged during the 1980s, but this will be more sophisticated.
